Who monitors lone worker emergency alerts?

An emergency alert that isn’t monitored in real-time is just a notification of a tragedy.
In Australia and New Zealand, the failure to ensure a reliable response to an SOS signal can be the difference between a rescue and a recovery. Under the WHS Act 2011 in Australia and the HSWA 2015 in New Zealand, PCBUs have a non-negotiable duty to manage the risks of remote and isolated work.

The Law Demands a Response, Not Just a Signal
Australian and New Zealand legislation requires that safety systems be effective and practically applicable to the risk. A PCBU cannot claim they have met their duty of care simply by providing a device if there is no professional infrastructure in place to monitor and action the alerts those devices send.

A Manager’s Mobile Phone Is Not a Monitoring Centre
What we consistently see is a dangerous gap where organisations rely on a customer service department or a manager’s mobile phone to receive alerts after hours. This approach fails during sleep, in dead zones, or during simultaneous incidents, leaving the worker stranded and the organisation exposed to massive liability.

Professional Infrastructure Prevents Fatal Delays
Genuine protection requires a 24/7 professional monitoring centre staffed by trained operators using commercial response software. This includes redundant power, internet, and backup sites to ensure connectivity, whether the alert comes from a cellular wearable device or a mobile phone app.

Guardian Angel Safety: Turning Policy Into Real Protection
For over 12 years, we have provided the professional monitoring infrastructure that Australian and New Zealand organisations need to move beyond paper-based policies. We combine 24/7 expert monitoring with cellular and satellite-connected devices to ensure that when a worker triggers an SOS, a trained professional is already coordinating the rescue.
