● Monitoring & Response

How does lone worker alert monitoring work?

An alert that goes unanswered is a failure of your duty of care in Australia and New Zealand.
When a worker is incapacitated, a silent device is a liability. Under the WHS Act 2011 (AU) and HSWA 2015 (NZ), you are responsible for ensuring your isolated workers can be reached and rescued in an emergency.

Liability rests on the efficacy of your response, not your intent
In Australia, the WHS Act 2011 requires PCBUs to manage the risks of remote and isolated work through effective communication systems. Similarly, the HSWA 2015 in New Zealand mandates that employers ensure the health and safety of workers, meaning a “check-in policy” is insufficient without a verified way to trigger a rescue.

A policy document cannot call for help
Many organisations rely on mobile phone apps in areas with poor coverage or “monitoring centres” that are actually just customer service departments. We have seen systems where after-hours alerts are routed to a single mobile phone, leaving your worker’s life to chance and your organisation exposed to extreme legal risk.

Real protection integrates hardware with a professional response centre
Genuine monitoring uses configurable check-in timers and No-Motion Alerts to detect inactivity automatically. It relies on professional operators using commercial response software and 24/7 staffing to manage priority signals, supported by redundant power and internet systems to ensure the centre never goes offline.
